I love music, and I love supporting bands and artists. However unfortunately I do most of my listening to music on Spotify.
This is not a choice that sits well with me. I know artists deserve better than Spotify, or any streaming platform is willing to give them. I do try to buy the download or physical copies of albums if I can also. I also buy A LOT of merch and tickets to compensate for my Spotify sins.
The convenience of millions of tunes one button away isn’t even what keeps me hanging on. It’s the history. Nostalgia.
Let me qualify. I can scroll through old playlists and instantly remember when I made them, who I was spending time with, and what was going on for me at the time. Music has a way of preserving memories better than almost anything else. In fact, for the past several years, I’ve made a monthly playlist of songs I’ve had on repeat, or have discovered, or artists I want to get to know.
This page is where I’ll share what I’m listening to right now: new discoveries, old favourites, Australian artists I think deserve more attention, and the songs I just can’t stop playing.
