Enmore Theatre 9/10/26

So my daughter had tickets to see the Old Mervs. I generally don’t pay heaps of attention to what gigs/concerts my kids are going to. However, this one came to my attention because of the support!
As we have been made aware, I am a big fan of supporting supports, but I knew this particular time it was going to be one of those moments where I would stay to check out the headliner, or actually just hang out with my daughter and embarrass her in any way I could.
I had a bottomless brunch birthday for a good friend that day, and given that this particular group of friends encompasses a lot of Irish folk, I was nervous about buying a ticket, as a bottomless brunch for the Irish can sometimes go till brunch the next day. Then I thought it might be a good safety net to be responsible.
At any rate, I got there for a few songs from the first support, Lucky. That is the name of the support act, not my commenting on being fortunate to get there. See the capital L. However, I was glad to have got there for them.
I was a bit busy during their set finding my daughter and being introduced to all her new friends. She had headed to this gig on her own (she is my daughter), and won’t let a lack of mates with decent music taste stop her from seeing music she loves. She also makes friends everywhere she goes, not so much like me.
So that was my time with Lucky. However, one of my daughter’s new friends, who had nabbed a barrier possie, said they’d swap with me for the Littles. So despite not being able to take much of Lucky in, it was time well spent.
As The Pretty Littles waltzed onto the stage, I took up my loaned possie and instructed my daughter to be camera-ready and video, photograph and generally give me a wide berth to lose myself. And that I did.
I have already scribed some subpar ramblings about my love for The Littles. This particular set was also awesome. I was concerned about the small time frame they’d have to play as the support, and that was warranted. So many songs not played. I will always wan to hear Sober. However, having seen them earlier this year on their own tour, I can comfortably say I wasn’t happy with that amount of time either. The price you pay for having a lot of songs you like.
I did feel a little (pardon the pun) like their very earnest and often tragic storytelling may get lost in their amazing tunes for this particular crowd. But who am I to say how much of the story of The Force or Don Dale was picked up on? I hope the passion from the band, and the excellent music meant everyone went home and had a more in-depth listen.
All that being said, I had a great time dancing like an idiot and singing along to every song, with lots of support from my daughter’s friends.
Don Dale will always be a favourite live, and this night was no exception. They genuinely seemed to enjoy every minute of the set, and playing in such an amazing venue, which, to be fair, I think they should be able to sell out by themselves. Maybe one day.
Third time seeing them this year, and it’s still not enough. Could have left after their set having completely got my money’s worth.
I did stay and hang out with my daughter, her new friends, and a few of my son’s friends who turned up. To be honest, most of the Old Mervs set was spent watching my daughter enjoy a gig, and making sure she was safe.
So, successful gig, I would say.
